A Lighthouse

I was thinking today about an encounter I had some years ago that I would consider one of those defining kinds of a Jesus Moment.  I was talking to a Christian Counselor so I was able to really vent some things that I had been feeling.  At the time I was feeling frustrated because I felt like I wasn’t making any real impact for the Kingdom.  I was pastoring a small church in a small town and I felt insignificant.   I even had someone that had sort of prayed/prophesied over me that I would be nameless and faceless in the Kingdom.  I think it was supposed to be a good thing, but I wasn’t feeling it (you feel me?).

So I was kind of whining and complaining to this counselor and she looked at me and said something along these lines: “That is ridiculous.  You pastor a church in a very dark place and you (now talking about the church) are a lighthouse”.  That direct and simple statement resonated with me and changed the way I was feeling.

I looked up the definition of a lighthouse and I like it a lot:

The purpose of a lighthouse’s light is to provide a fixed point of reference to aid in the ability to navigate in the dark.

People who are in the darkness need to find Jesus, the light of the world, and it is cool to be involved in the process.
