Bible Reading 1 Samuel 1 – 3

Today’s Bible Reading (found on the right side of the Jesus Moment site) is 1 Samuel 1 through 3. These chapters introduce us to Samuel and Eli. Eli is a priest and Samuel is put in his care in service of the Lord by Hannah. Eli has a couple of sons who don’t care about God and take advantage of their positions. God is going to deal with it.

Samuel, on the other hand, serves and listens to the Lord. By the end of chapter 3, we see that “all Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the Lord. Samuel’s ministry will get into full swing in the coming chapters. The verse that I am going to think about today is 1 Samuel 3:10:

1 Samuel 3:10 (New International Version)

10 The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”
Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

My hope and prayer is that when the Lord is speaking, I am listening and willing to do what He says, follow where He leads, and love who he loves.
