Bible Reading Isaiah 40 – 42
Today’s Bible reading (this list of daily Bible reading is available on the right hand side of the Jesus Moment site) is Isaiah chapters 40 through42. This section contains one of my favorite Bible verses:
Isaiah 40:28-31 (New International Version)
28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
I like the word pictures presented here, especially the idea of soaring on wings like eagles. As the old saying goes, I would rather soar with the eagles than scratch with the chickens. Another verse I will think about today is:
Isaiah 42:1-4 (New International Version)
1 “Here is my servant, whom I uphold,
my chosen one in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on him
and he will bring justice to the nations.
2 He will not shout or cry out,
or raise his voice in the streets.
3 A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.
In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;
4 he will not falter or be discouraged
till he establishes justice on earth.
In his law the islands will put their hope.”
Living on an island in the Florida Keys, I am partial to island verses like this one.
