Bible Reading Joshua 9 – 12

If you haven’t seen it already, on the right hand side of the “A Jesus Moment” site there is a Bible Plan for reading through the Bible in a year. I would recommend that you make a decision to start today, so that you can develop the habit of reading through the Bible. Just start with the reading for the day, don’t worry if it is in the middle of a book, just start and develop the habit. As I read, I always look for one scripture that I can think about and meditate on through out the day.

Today, (I understand that these four chapters are very heavy) the passage that really jumped out at me was Joshua 10:12-14:

Joshua 10:12-14 (New International Version)

12 On the day the LORD gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the LORD in the presence of Israel:
“O sun, stand still over Gibeon,
O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.”

13 So the sun stood still,
and the moon stopped,
till the nation avenged itself on [a] its enemies,
as it is written in the Book of Jashar.
The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. 14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a man. Surely the LORD was fighting for Israel!

The thought of God making the sun stand still fascinates me. It makes me think about the power of the creator of the universe. Today, instead of worrying over all of the little foxes that are trying to spoil the vineyard, I will remember the awesome power of the God I serve and love and rest in His promises for me.
