Bible Reading Judges 13 – 16
ByToday’s reading, which you can find by clicking on the link on the right hand side of the Jesus Moment site, is Judges 13 through 16. These chapters are primarily about Samson. I know we often teach about Samson’s strength in Sunday School, but when you read the chapters it is pretty apparent that his character was not quite so strong. For all his strength, he doesn’t come off as being very bright either. His arrogance and pride lead to his downfall. I had to chuckle though, when I read Judges 16:16:
Judges 16:16 (New International Version)
16 With such nagging she prodded him day after day until he was tired to death.
I get a kick out of little verses that are tucked away in the scripture like that. While I got a kick out of that verse, what I am going to spend time thinking about today is how easy iit is to get prideful and think that the gifts that God gives us are somehow about us instead of Him.
Judges 16:20 (New International Version)
20 Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!”
He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the LORD had left him.
We need to remember that apart from Him we can do nothing. It is all about Jesus!
