Bible Reading Judges 9 – 12

Today’s Bible reading, (found on the right hand side of the Jesus Moment site) is Judges 9 through 12. The sin cycle is evident through out these chapters as Israel continues to get complacent with her relationship to God, turns to other gods, ends up in slavery and then cries out to God for help. I was particularly interested in the exchange recorded in Judges 10:11-16:

Judges 10:11-16 (New International Version)

11 The LORD replied, “When the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, the Philistines, 12 the Sidonians, the Amalekites and the Maonites [a] oppressed you and you cried to me for help, did I not save you from their hands? 13 But you have forsaken me and served other gods, so I will no longer save you. 14 Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you when you are in trouble!”

15 But the Israelites said to the LORD, “We have sinned. Do with us whatever you think best, but please rescue us now.” 16 Then they got rid of the foreign gods among them and served the LORD. And he could bear Israel’s misery no longer.

I am going to be thinking about these verses today. They remind me again of how amazing the mercy and grace of God are. We have all turned our backs on him and chosen sin so many times, and yet He made a way for us in Christ. In Christ, He has made a way for us to break from from our misery!
