C.S. Lewis with Friends – Genesis 1 – 3

• January 1, 2011 • Comments (0)

Some of my friends and I got the new C.S Lewis Bible for Christmas. My hope for this New Year is to read through this Bible over the course of the year and hopefully connect with my friends alng the way to see what they think as well. I know from experience that I will probably not get to blog about every days reading, but I am quite confident that I can stay on the reading schedule, God willing. I will be using the Bible reading plan that I have listed on the sidebar of this Jesus Moment blog as my guide.

The first reading of the year is Genesis 1 through 3. The creation account always intrigues me no matter how many times I read it. I have often tried to picture how it all might have looked as it happened. I love Lewis’ creation song writing at the end of Chapter 1. The First voice, the deep one, made all the stars appear and sing…they made you feel excited, until you saw the Singer himself, and then you forgot everything else. I also enjoyed the comment Lewis made on Genesis 2:3 where he said “I don’t believe that good work is ever done in a hurry”. I am going to try and take that to heart this year. Also, did you catch the commentary on Chapter 3 where he is talking about being like God and he says “They wanted to be nouns, but they were, and eternally must be, mere adjectives”. That is great. I am going to be using that somewhere soon after I think on it for awhile.

Bible Reading Jeremiah 40 – 42

• May 21, 2010 • Comments (0)

Today on A Jesus Moment we continue with our reading in the book of Jeremiah by looking at chapters 40 through 42. Check out these verses:

Jeremiah 42:4-6 (NIV)
4 “I have heard you,” replied Jeremiah the prophet. “I will certainly pray to the LORD your God as you have requested; I will tell you everything the LORD says and will keep nothing back from you.” 5 Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the LORD be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act in accordance with everything the LORD your God sends you to tell us. 6 Whether it is favorable or unfavorable, we will obey the LORD our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it will go well with us, for we will obey the LORD our God.”

In these verses the people tell Jeremiah that they want to know what the Lord has to say and that they will obey what He tells them. Of course, they don’t like what He has to say so they choose to do their own thing. I think that this is something we all struggle with. We want to do the Lord’s will, but mostly if it sort of lines up with our will. If we want to do something contrary, (and as sinners we often do) then we look for ways to justify and rationalize (tell rational lies). Help us all God to do Your will today. Let You will be done in our lives.

Bible Reading Jeremiah 37 – 39

• May 20, 2010 • Comments (0)

Today on A Jesus Moment we are reading Jeremiah chapters 37 through 39. Once again Jeremiah is the target of the wrath of the people because he continues to speak the truth of God’s word to them. Often times the truth is not very popular.

Jeremiah 38:4 (NIV)
4 Then the officials said to the king, “This man should be put to death. He is discouraging the soldiers who are left in this city, as well as all the people, by the things he is saying to them. This man is not seeking the good of these people but their ruin.”

The reality of the situation is that Jeremiah is seeking the good of these people, not by telling them what they want to hear, but telling them truth. God’s Word is truth and yet we live in a culture still that woudl rather hear what they want to hear than have to be challenged by the Word of God. One thing I know is that if I am confronted with a decision, and the culture says that choice A is correct and the Bible says that choice B is correct, that the choice to make is always B.
