Kingdom Thoughts Part 1
What do you think of when you hear or read the word “kingdom”? I think that many people would say that a kingdom would be a country or a territory, like the United Kingdom, or like Jordan, which has a king. Others might suggest that a kingdom refers to the people who live in the territory of a king. What was it that Jesus was saying when he said the Kingdom of God was here? In the NT the Greek word that is used for kingdom is “basalia”. The best definition for this word is the right to rule or reign. The Kingdom of God then, is best understood as God’s rule and reign. What Jesus is announcing is that with His coming, God’s rule and reign is being established. God’s Kingdom is being established or inaugurated with Jesus arrival on the scene. The Kingdom of God (His rule and reign) is here, but it is not yet fully here, and we will be discussing that in future Kingdom Thoughts.
