The Ministry of Encouragement

Having spent quite a bit of time thinking and praying through the idea of what the ministry of encouragement might look like, I have come up with a two pronged approach that I am going to put into practice.

The first prong is to work on being less critical and judgmental. To really work on not complaining all the time. I am going to be praying for God to give me a new perspective so that I can be grateful for what I have, instead of being focused on what I do not have. This is a critical step that must be in place before I can really embrace the second prong.

The second prong is to be proactive with encouragement. I am going to pray and ask God to show me two people every day that I can encourage. I will either call them on the phone, text them, email them or whatever, but I will go out of my way to encourage them. My hope is that this will catch on and that when someone is encouraged, they will embrace the idea of encouraging someone else. If a bunch of us decided to be a people of encouragement, every day encouraging at least two people, we could have a big impact on a very negative and grumpy world. So what do you think? Can you start making a daily habit of going out of your way to encourage at least two people a day? I am going to try.

I would like to start by encouraging you, Pastor Steve. Please continue these Jesus Moments because I just love them! I think you are the coolest pastor I have come across in all my church experiences. Please keep up the good work, and don’t ever lose your sense of humor. I can see how your heart is constantly seeking the Lord and trying to do his work in the here and now.
I love how you start your prayers with “Papa”.

Thank you for the encouragement Carol. It is my hope to be able to keep up with the Moments and perhaps encourage a few folks along the way. I appreciate you taking the time to send me the comments!
