1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV)
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.

A) The Encourager’s Plan

1) Get focused

Hebrews 10:19-25

2) Get Thankful

Philippians 4:4-8

3) Get Connected

Matthew 6:9-13

4) Get Dressed

Ephesians 6:12-18

5) Get Going

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

What does the encourager’s plan encourage us to do? Be thankful for 5 things and encourage 2 people every day. To what end? What is the purpose of it all?

B) One More

We have had as our mission statement for years the following:

Advancing the Kingdom of God one person at a time.

A mission statement allows you to evaluate what you are doing. If what you are doing makes sense in furthering your mission, then you do it. If it doesn’t make sense, even if it is a good thing, you don’t do it.

As I have been praying over the last few weeks I have felt strongly that we need to update our mission statement. Not to change the mission, just the way we say it. And the new mission statement is:

One More.

Why we do what we do as a church is for One More.

One more lost child back to Dad.

One more to Jesus.

One more in the Kingdom.

One More.

Let’s go and do all that He calls us to for One More. The Apostle Paul said:

1 Corinthians 9:22b-23 (NIV)
22…… I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. 23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

I even have a new hand sign for our mission statement. A gesture that will help us all to remember the mission. You ready?

Thumb up!

With our mission clearly stated, the result is that our focus then becomes the following:

C) Love God and love others

Mark 12:30-31 (NIV)
30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

Our teaching, and our worship, and our fellowship and our outreach all need to focus on loving God and loving others. We will be expanding on this concept in the weeks ahead but let me tie a few things together right now.

One of the ways that we love God is by being thankful for five things.

One of the ways that we can love others is by encouraging two people.

We do this so that One More can find their way Home.

Five – Two – One

2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV)
21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

This verse comes at the end of a passage calling us to be His ambassadors. We will be looking at this in our next series.
