You Know that Sinking Feeling
I am always amazed at the impact of worry and anxiety on my day to day life. I am also aware of how quickly it can happen. Just going through a day, feeling pretty good about life in general, and all it takes is one conversation to feel completely unsettled. It is that feeling that I think bothers me most. I don’t know about you, but it hits me in the stomach (which for me is a big target) and it just shakes everything up.
What I have been working on for the last few years is to see how quickly that sinking feeling will fade. I understand the scripture and I know that worry is useless. Worry is letting the problem work on me. Prayer is partnering with God to work on the problem, but there seems to still be some delay in getting from point A to point B.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
I know it and I believe it but I still get hit with that sinking feeling. It doesn’t seem to stick around as long, but I would love to get to the place where I don’t let it stick at all. I guess being aware of it and not letting it take over is a positive step in the right direction. I am in need of a Jesus moment, so I am going to pray!
